Ipswich: The funeral service for Shirley A. Fries, 69, of Ipswich is 10 a.m. Tuesday at United Church of Christ, state Highway 45, in Ipswich. Burial will be in the city cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the services Tuesday, all at the church.
Shirley was born on Sept. 25, 1941, to Leslie Sr. and Jeanette (Sandve) Holland in Britton. She attended school at Langford High School. In 1971, she married Jack Fries. They made their home in Aberdeen before moving to a farm east of Ipswich in 1986. In 1996, they moved to Ipswich.
Shirley loved raising her children and extended that love to others by being a foster parent for 22 years. As a foster parent, she cared for more than 100 children.
Taking the family to the lake and on family vacations was a highlight of her life. She enjoyed going to rummage sales and was a masterful clearance shopper. She also found time to garden and care for her plants while working at several part-time jobs over the years.
Shirley died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Ipswich following a courageous fight with cancer.
She will live forever in the heart of her husband, Jack, of Ipswich; her daughters: Brenda (Dennis) Joy of Aberdeen, Tamra (Troy) Peschong of Milbank, Tracy (Jeromy) Loken of Ipswich, and Summer Fries of Aberdeen; her sons: Jon (Mary) Rose of Colorado Springs, Colo., Marvin (Annie Bebo) Rose of Aberdeen and Terence Fries of Scottsdale, Ariz.; her parents, Leslie Sr. and Jeanette Holland, of Ipswich; her brothers: Les Jr. (Deb) Holland of Ipswich, Ron (Marge) Holland of Aberdeen, Doug (Donna) Holland of Ipswich and Ricky Holland of Ipswich; her sisters: Carol Frybarger, Cindy Birdsall and Deb Holland all of Ipswich; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Her son, Todd Rose; brother, David Holland; grandparents; and an infant son all preceded her in death.
