Garret-son: Marcella Marcie Artz, 85, formerly of Northville, S.D., died on Sept. 24, 2011, at Palisade Manor in Garretson.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Spearfish, S.D., with Father Tim Hoag officiating.
Burial will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D.
Marcella was born Feb. 27, 1926, in rural Mina, S.D., the daughter of William and Margaret Dutenhoeffer. Marcie married Lambert Artz on Sept. 11, 1946. Together they farmed near Mina, Ipswich and Northville, S.D. After moving from the farm, they traveled to Kansas as Artz Harvestors working north to the Dakotas with an inspired crew. Mother Goose and The Gander, as they were affectionately referred to, continued the journey until 1984, when they began spending winters in Yuma, Ariz., and their summers as campground hosts in Yankton, S.D.
She is survived by her six children: Robert (Karol) of Ashton, S.D., Sharal (Richard) Akin of Garretson, S.D., Allen (Paula) of Highland, Calif., Kevin (Patti) of Yankton, S.D., David of Wolsey, S.D., and Lisa (Blayne) Sandidge of Sturgis, S.D.; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Hildi (Jack) Barger, Lake Havasu, Ariz., Carol (Roy) Volk, Lake Havasu, Ariz., Diane (Ron) Ross, Lincoln, Neb., and Kathy (Rich) Kriech, Indio, Calif.; three brothers: Andrew (Bernice), Romona, Calif., Kenny, El Cajon, Calif., and Duane (Thelma), Scottsbluff, Neb.
Marcie was preceded in death by her husband in 2005; and three brothers: William, Arthur and Wilbert Dutenhoeffer.
