Aberdeen: The funeral service for Rozell F. Tovaas, 81, of Aberdeen will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. in Aberdeen, with the Rev. Tanya Rist officiating.
Burial will be at the Haley Cemetery in Haley, N.D. Rozell died Friday, Aug. 12, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.
Visitation will begin two hours before the service at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home.
Rozell Fannie Newell was born on Dec. 23, 1929, in Aberdeen to Lawrence and Fannie (Larson) Newell. She attended kindergarten and first grade in Aberdeen. The family then moved to Washington state, where she went to second through ninth grades. The family moved to Garden City, then to Harding County, where her parents farmed. In 1947, they moved to Wisconsin.
On Dec. 2, 1947, she was married to Newell Tovaas in Park Rapids, Minn. They lived the first three years of their married life in various places in the area. In 1950, they moved to Seattle and continued to live there until 1968, when they moved to Kent, Wash.
Mr. Tovaas died on April 14, 1974, and, in 1978, Rozell moved to Aberdeen, where she lived since.
Rozell enjoyed cross-stitching and crocheting afghans for the St. Labre Indian School, playing bingo, baking, cooking and making candy, traveling and spending time online on her computer. Rozell loved kids, corresponding and spending time with family.
Grateful for having shared Rozell's life are her sister, Esther (Jim) Bakeberg of Watertown, and many nieces and nephews.
Rozell was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Fannie; her husband, Newell; and three brothers, DuWayne Newell, Harold Newell and Francis Newell.
