Aberdeen: Funeral services for Elmer R. Roth, 89, Aberdeen, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Jeff Whillock officiating, with military honors by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park. Elmer died Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday, with family present from 5 to 7 and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St.
Elmer Robert Roth was born on March 8, 1922, in rural Mansfield, S.D., to Robert and Edith (Burke) Roth. He attended Chambers rural school and graduated from Cresbard High School with the class of 1940. He worked for Reinhard Brothers Auto Parts Store in Aberdeen until entering the U.S. Army Air Force on Oct. 22, 1942, and was honorably discharged on Dec. 10, 1945, at Lowry Field, Colo. On Aug. 26, 1943, he married Elaine Gunderson in Aberdeen. He worked for Nelson Auto Electric, where he became part owner in 1972, retiring in 1986.
Elmer was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He was a life member of Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24; life member of VFW; life member of Elk's Lodge; Hub City Amateur Radio Club; Sons of Norway; Brown County Sportsman Club; and Ringneck Coin and Stamp Club.
Grateful for having shared Elmer's life are his wife, Elaine Roth, Aberdeen; children: Bill (Linda) Roth, Aberdeen, David Roth, Northfield, Minn., Barb (Dave) Ingalsbe, Paynesville, Minn., Bev (Terry) Hammrich, Sioux Falls; grandchildren: Amy (Mark) Kotcho, Sara (Jason) Laumer, Pastor Amber Ingalsbe, Scott (Andrea) Ingalsbe, Adam (Laura) Ingalsbe, Tyson Hammrich, Trevor Hammrich, Alyssa (Nic) Olson, Taylor Hammrich; great-grandchildren: Ashlyn Kotcho, Brayden Kotcho, Trevin Kotcho, Abigail Laumer, Ethan Laumer, Isaac Laumer and Caden Laumer; brothers and sisters: LaVerne (Gloria) Roth, Sioux Falls; Allen (Irene) Roth, Mesa, Ariz.; the Rev. Robert (Enid) Roth, Spearfish; and Gary (Jan) Roth, Fairbanks, Alaska.
Elmer is preceded in death by his parents.
