Marlene died Friday, July 15, 2011, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.

Marlene was born January 6, 1939, to Frank and Cora (Thornes) Jaspers in Britton, SD. Marlene grew up in Eden and Britton, SD. She graduated from Britton High School in 1956, then Northern State Teachers College, graduating in 1960. On December 28, 1961, Marlene married Jon Kohlhaas in Aberdeen, SD. In 1962, they moved to Winnemuca, NV, and returned to Aberdeen, SD in 1965. Marlene worked at Taylor Music in Aberdeen for over 30 years until she retired in 2004. She enjoyed "heading south" for the winter these past few years to Mesa, AZ. She was also a long-time member of SAI Sorority.
Marlene (aka Mom or Gramma) had a love for music and theatre, and enjoyed going to many concerts and plays. She also volunteered many hours to community organizations such as ACT and Roncalli's Nearly New. She loved reading, puzzles and playing cards. She truly enjoyed spending time with her five grandchildren - they were the light of her life. Her thoughtfulness and "ear" will be greatly missed by many.
Marlene's family wishes to extend a thousand thanks to Avera Hospital Systems (Aberdeen and Sioux Falls) and the Conklin Regional Cancer Center (Aberdeen) and their wonderful staff for the great care given to Marlene during her illness. You are all amazing!
She will be missed by her husband, Jon Kohlhaas; children: Jeanne Kohlhaas (Dave Lahti), St. Paul, MN, Paul (Michelle) Kohlhaas, Aberdeen, Nancy Miller, Aberdeen, and Deborah Grund, Bloomington, MN; grandchildren: Bryan Miller, Michaella Crouch, Brandon Grund, Lucas Miller and Jacob Kohlhaas; brothers: Donald (Patsy) Jaspers, Rathdrum, ID, and David (RoseMary) Jaspers, Hot Springs Village, AR.
