Rapid City: Diane Elyse Burgard, 60, passed away on Oct. 10, 2011, at Rapid City Regional Hospice House.
Diane was born on July 26, 1951, to William and Anne (Fehlan) Lincoln in Redwood City, Calif. She spent her early and young adult years in the Bay Area, later attending college at Pasadena City College.
Diane was united in marriage to Bob Burgard on June 6, 1986, in Douglas, Ga. On May 30, 1990, Bob and Diane welcomed the birth of their son, Matt. Diane worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service, before resigning to travel all corners of the country with her husband, in his occupation. During that time, Diane made many friends and stayed in touch with all throughout the years.
Her favorite pastime was antiquing and collecting anything vintage. Diane held an appreciation for the outdoors, hiking and backpacking, which was nurtured from her early family outings spent in the Sierra Nevada. She was always willing to give friendly advice to anyone who asked. Diane will be remembered by family and friends for her outgoing personality, wonderful smile and great sense of humor.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bob; and son, Matt, of Rapid City; her mother, Anne Lincoln, of Pleasanton, Calif.; brothers, Bill Lincoln Jr. (Carolyn), Pleasanton, Calif., and Chad (Kath) Lincoln, Carmel, Calif.; sisters, Lori (Larry) Hill, Sacramento, Calif., Janis (Darrell) Hunt of Craig, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City, with Father Dave Matzko, S.J., presiding.
The family would like to especially thank the RC Regional Hospice staff and volunteers who took Diane into their heart and helped her in her courageous battle against her illness.
