Eden Prairie, Minn.: LaRayne Schlepp was born April 21, 1924, on a farm north of Java to John Job and Justina (Doerr) Job. She attended country school for eight years. She attended Java High School. She completed the course of study in three years and graduated second in her class. Following graduation, she worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C.
She married Gilbert G. Schlepp on June 8, 1947 in Java. They owned the G & L Grocery Store in Java for a time. LaRayne also worked in several Walworth County offices, as a legal secretary for Attorney Jack Von Wald, and later as the Walworth County Clerk of Courts. While serving as Clerk of Courts, she officiated at the marriage of over 175 couples, a responsibility that she enjoyed performing. While working and after retirement, she was active in St. Paul Lutheran Church and Java community affairs, including the establishment of the Java community library. In 2000, she sold her home in Java and moved to Eden Prairie, Minn., to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Mike. She died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at the Minnesota Masonic Home in Bloomington, Minn.
LaRayne enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards with friends, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, walking, riding bike, and spending time with children, grandchildren and family. She enjoyed keeping house, cooking and entertaining friends and family.
She is survived by daughters: Barbara (Mike) Carroll of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Carolyn (Joel) Jorgenson of Willmar, Minn.; grandchildren: Katie Jo Jorgenson, Hollywood, Calif., and Zachary Jorgenson, Minneapolis, Minn.; sisters-in law: Darlene Hartman, Selby, S.D., and Joyce Schlepp, Colorado; stepgrandchildren; stepgreat-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband in 1973; her mother when LaRayne was age three; her father; stepmother, Rosina Job; brothers: Robert Job, Ervin Job, Reuben Job, and Walter Job (in infancy); sisters: Tillie Job, Minnie Job, Frieda McCauley, Vina York and Delphia Trudeau.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Java, with Pastor Mary Lou Gruebele leading the service. Visitation begins 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
Casketbearers will be her grandchildren, Katie Jo and Zachary; her sons-in-law, Mike and Joel; Paul Job of Pierrre; and Gaylon Job of Maple Grove, Minn.
Interment is 9 a.m. MST Tuesday at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, with Pastor Bill Mairose leading the service.
