Aberdeen: Memorial services for Ruth Magagna, 87, of Aberdeen will be Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. Pastors Chris Anderson and Tim Serson will officiate.
A prayer service with Eastern Star Funeral Ceremony will be held in the Good Shepherd Chapel on Monday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. Burial of cremains will be in Mount View Cemetery, West Hazleton, Pa.
Ruth passed away on Feb. 18, 2012, at Bethesda Nursing Home.
Ruth Jane Roberts was born Sept. 11, 1924, to William G. and Clarissa Jane (Troell) Roberts. She attended school in West Hazleton, graduating with the class of '42. Ruth was employed with Miners Bank in West Hazleton from '43 until her retirement in 1990.
Ruth married Louis John Magagna on Sept. 9, 1950. They raised two children, Barry, who died in a motorcycle accident in 1970, and Sharon. Louis died Feb. 8, 1987. In November 1992, Ruth moved to Aberdeen to live with her daughter and family.
Ruth was Past Matron and life member of both Mayflower Chapter No. 107 Hazleton, Pa., and Minerva Chapter No. 5 Aberdeen; Order of Eastern Star; and Past Mother Advisor of Rainbow Girls, Hazleton, Pa.
She loved to cook, bake, sew and handmade many beautiful quilts for family and friends. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Quilters, Aberdeen Quilt guild, Girl Scouts, 1st United Methodist Church widows group, Mary Circle - WELCA, Pasque Club, and church choirs at both Christ Memorial UCC in West Hazleton and Good Shepherd. Ruth organized and chaired the Christmas Tea at Good Shepherd for 10 years. Ruth's joy for life was contagious and her singing and humming, while she worked and played, helped all around her enjoy her company. Feeding people, both physically and spiritually, brought her great happiness.
Being blessed to share Ruth's life include her daughter, Sharon (Curt) Bossert, of Aberdeen; grandchildren: Craig (Ashley) Bossert, Omaha, Neb., Nathaniel (Sadie) Bossert, Sioux City, Iowa, Heather (Jacob) Wiskerchen, Reno, Nev., Barry (Dineen) Magagna, Philadelphia, Pa., William (Erin) Magagna, Lancaster, Pa.; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son; brothers, Robert and Arthur Roberts; and sister, Doris Huttenstine.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Good Shepherd Quilters or Adult Choir.
