Kent Donovan Seymour, son of Jason and Dorothy (Arthurs) Seymour, was born Aug. 10, 1937, in Aberdeen. He was raised on the family farm near Mellette and attended country school through the eighth grade. He moved into Mellette and lived with his grandmother, where he played basketball and attended Mellette High School graduating in 1955.
He was united in marriage to Marjorie Spatafore on Aug. 17, 1955, in Webster. Kent and Marjorie resided at the farm for 56 years. Kent went on to attend SDSU for one semester prior to moving back to the Mellette area to begin farming with his father. He remained on the farm until 1995, when his health caused him to retire.
Kent cherished his time on the farm and loved caring for his animals. He especially enjoyed raising the sheep his children showed over the years. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching John Wayne westerns. Kent loved going to the South Dakota State Fair. He spent countless hours visiting with his friends at the Mellette Travel Plaza, as well as at the post office. Kent was a caring family man and was always passionate about his children's sporting events.
