DUI patrols to ramp up for Labor Day
The Laguna Beach Police Department will step up its enforcement over Labor Day weekend, Sept. 2 to 5.
Extra officers will be patrolling the city in an effort to locate and clear DUI offenders off the road. In the past, these DUI saturation patrols have proven successful.
The police department hopes getting the word out about an increase in patrols will deter motorists from drinking and driving, Chief of Police Paul Workman said in a news release.
Police recommend the following tips to keep yourself and others safe over the holiday weekend:
•Plan out how you will get home before you head out for the night.
•Designate a sober driver.
•Call a taxi or use public transportation.
•Call 911 if you see a drunk driver on the road.
•Prevent your friends from driving if you see that they're impaired.
Funding for Labor Day weekend enforcement comes from a grant by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
