Shake Shack opens in West Hartford’s Corbin’s Corner, 1445 New Britain Ave. on April 27 at 11 a.m.

The restaurant chain is known as a “modern day roadside burger stand” with burgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, fries and frozen custard treats. The West Hartford location will serve local beer by City Steam, Olde Burnside and Thomas Hooker breweries, along with Shake Shack’s exclusive Brooklyn Brewery ShackMeister ale and Shake Red and White wines from Napa’s Frog’s Leap Winery.

 
 

Science Straight Up

“Fresh and Green” is the theme of this happy hour at the Connecticut Science Center on May 3 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Entertainment includes Botany Bar Trivia with BarRated Trivia, a performance with SeaTea Improv and exploration of the Caterpillar Lab, the science of cannabis and the medicinal qualities of plants. Food is provided by Bear’s Smokehouse; beer from City Steam Brewery. The center’s rooftop garden will also be open, weather permitting. 21-plus. $10 in advance; $5 members; $12 at the door. Little Poland Festival

This is the day — April 29 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. — that New Britain’s shopping district is transformed with thousands of visitors, leaping folk dancers, live music, arts and crafts, costumed characters, carnival rides and food, lots and lots of food. Baby Grand Jazz Wraps Up

The Steve Kroon Latin Jazz Sextet closes this year’s Baby Grand Jazz Series on April 29 at 3 p.m. at the Hartford Public Library. Percussionist Kroon’s band is a blend of Afro-Cuban and Brazilian music. The free, hour-long concert can also be viewed live on the library’s Facebook page and will be posted for later viewing on its website.

 
 

Art Scavenger Hunt

WeHa Artists Emporium presents its fourth annual springtime art hunt on April 29. This year’s theme is Finding Faces. Participants should join the Facebook event page, and at 9 a.m. on the hunt day, the location of the hunt will be revealed. Those who find any of the 100 hidden artworks can keep them. Participating artists include Julie Phillipps, Stefanie Marco, Hannah Jackson, Eina Rieger, Sarah Loiselle, Kaitlyn Considine, Denise Balcanoff, Angela Shenk, Elizabeth Hanlon and Shannon MacGrogan-Ellis.
