Ugly Sweater Party

The New Britain Museum of American Art encourages you to wear the ugliest sweater you have for its Museum After Dark Ugly Sweater Party on Friday, Dec. 15, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the museum. Music by DJ Afropanther. Activities include origami holiday ornaments, and Yuengling and Sam Adams Winter Lager will be on tap. $20 members, $30 nonmembers, $15 designated driver. Fire On Ice

Hanukkah is celebrated in Blue Back Square on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 4 p.m. with a live carving of an 8-foot menorah, a menorah lighting, 3-D dreidel printing, glow-in-the-dark face-painting, arts and crafts, food and a Great Chocolate Hanukkah Gelt Drop. Music provided by Rogers Park, an Hasidic folk band.

A Spicy ‘Nutcracker’

CONNetic Dance again presents its “Nutcracker Suite and Spicy” on Dec. 15 to 17 at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art’s Aetna Theater in Hartford.

Choreographed and directed by Carolyn Paine, this high-kicking spin on the classic ballet is set to a compilation of music inspired by Tchaikovsky’s original score. This year, Hartford rapper and dancer Tang Sauce joins the cast as a Hip-Hop Soldier and performs in the ugly sweater scene.

Performances are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday, 2 p.m. Audience members encouraged to wear ugly Christmas sweaters to Sunday’s matinee, which will feature a live music opening and visit by Santa. $40. and 860-251-9194.

It’s A Wonderful Life

This 1946 James Stewart-Donna Reed classic about a man finding out what life is all about can be seen Dec. 18 to 24 at Cinestudio at Trinity College in Hartford, at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 18 to 23 and 2:30 p.m. Dec. 23 and 24. It also will be shown Dec. 16, 17 and 18 at Criterion Cinemas in New Haven, at 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

‘Hip Hop Nutcracker’

MC Kurtis Blow is guest for “The Hip Hop Nutcracker” at the Bushnell’s Mortensen Hall on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 4 p.m. This family holiday mash-up is a contemporary re-imagination of Tchaikovsky’s timeless music. $20-$70. and 860-987-5900.

Yard Goat Dance Tryouts

The Hartford Yard Goats invite kids ages 6 to 18 to try out Sunday, Dec. 17, for its youth dance team, which will be made up of 25 to 50 boys and girls who will perform at Friday-night home games. Auditions are at Dunkin’ Donuts Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All levels of experience welcome. More information here.
