Test Drive: Audi A3 E-Tron

This month I got behind the wheel of the all electric Audi A3 E-Tron. You have to love the robot inspired name on this one. The Audi A3 E-Tron combines good looks with high performance, and never uses a sip of gas.

If you're going to go all-electric, why not do it in style? Audi's plug-in E-Tron shares the same look and feel of the A3.

"It's really important that this car looks like an Audi, feels like an Audi. That's what our customers want," explains Jeff Curry from Audi of America.

Audi really kept the look of the car nearly identical to the gas version until you go under the hood. It looks nothing like a gas engine, in fact it almost looks like a computer.

Good looking and fast, up to 90 miles an hour.

Curry explains, "The most interesting thing about this car is the way it feels when you're driving it. It still has that sporty Audi feel, but then when you drive it, you definitely feel that instant torque".

This electric car is so quiet, Audi is actually working on a special sound, the E-Tron sound that people outside will be able to hear, but the inside will stay quiet.

Over the next year, engineers will be driving E-Tron in several U.S. citiies to optimize performance in various conditions.

The A3 is getting up to 90 miles on a charge and the batteries won't get in your way.

"It's the right size for young people, families, and this car even though it's an electric car it has the full interior dimensions just like an A3. so you can use it in your life just like you would a normal car," assures Curry.

Especially if you like to live life in the fast lane. The Audi A3 E-Tron is expected to hit th emarket in about two years. Audi won't say how much, but it will cost moe than the gas model.
