The delayed chaos of free agency in the National Football League kicked off Tuesday afternoon, and the Indianapolis Colts have been just as busy as any team around.
Reports of the Colts first acquisition surfaced Tuesday morning when third-year veteran Nate Davis, who finished with 74 touchdowns 9,233 yards during his three-year career at Ball State University, signed a two-year deal with the team. Davis, who was drafted from the San Francisco 49ers before getting cut his sophomore season before resurfacing with the Seattle Seahawks, has not played a single down in his NFL career. However, he is most known for his scintillating 65-yard in a preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Kentucky quarterback Mike Hartline, who threw 23 touchdowns and nine interceptions for the Wildcats in 2010, was also signed by the Colts. Hartline was arrested for public intoxication before Kentucky played in the BBVA Compass Bowl against Pittsburgh.
According to his Twitter account, undrafted Maryland linebacker Adrian Moten signed with the Colts Tuesday afternoon. Moten was a Fourth-team All-ACC selection, finishing with 77 tackles his senior season.
Also according to a Twitter account, Warren Central graduate and Virginia Tech star Darren Evans is expected to sign with the squad. The 2006 Mr. Football said this on his page: ""Never been more proud to be from Indianapolis than I am right now . . . I'll take the hometown kid title and run wild bc I'm a #Colt."
Ollie Ogbu, a undrafted rookie defensive end out of Penn State, was added to the roster. His senior season Ogbu Ogbu led Penn State with 8.5 tackles for loss, recorded 46 tackles, including a career-best seven stops last Saturday vs. No. 10 Michigan State in his final Beaver Stadium appearance.
Other free agent signings for the Colts include: Joe Lefged (safety, Rutgers), Chad Spann (running back, Northern Illinois), Jake Kirkpatrick (center, TCU), Joe Horn (wide receiver, Wisconsin), Chris Colasanti (linebacker, Penn State), and Travis Baltz (punter, Maryland).
