1B Mark Teixeira went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in his second game since returning from back spasms. Teixeira snapped an 0-for-13 skid with a pinch-hit single on Monday and went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in his first full game back on Tuesday.
3B Chase Headley went without a hit in a game for the first time in nine games since joining the Yankees on July 22, going 0-for-3 with a walk in the Yankees' 3-2 loss to Texas on Wednesday. Headley, who has hits in 21 of his last 24 games, is hitting .294 since his trade from San Diego earlier this month.
Brett Gardner hit his second leadoff home run in as many days in the Yankees' 3-2 loss to the Rangers on Wednesday. The home run was the fifth leadoff shot of his career and fourth long ball in the three-game series against Texas. Gardner went 8-for-14 in the series for the Yankees, who dropped two of three.
RHP Hiroki Kuroda (7-7, 3.98 ERA) took the loss Wednesday as the Yankees fell 3-2 to the Rangers. Kuroda gave up three runs in the first and then shut down the Rangers the rest of the way. His line: Seven innings, nine hits, three runs, one walk and four strikeouts. Over his last 16 starts, he's 5-4 with 3.59 ERA. "Hiro did a pretty good job," manager Joe Girardi said. "He had a rough first inning and then shut them down. Gave us the distance we needed."
