1B Freddie Freeman ended a streak of bad performances against the Marlins with a walk and a home run on Wednesday. Freeman entered the game hitting .045 in 11 games against the Marlins this season. His homer was his 14th and first since June 27 against Philadelphia. The 21-game homerless streak matched the longest of his career.

RHP Anthony Varvaro was placed on the paternity leave list and RHP Gus Schlosser was promoted from Triple-A Gwinnett to take his roster spot.

C Evan Gattis got Wednesday night off, but it had nothing to do with his recent back troubles. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said he will continue to start Gattis for two or three games and then give a start to veteran Gerald Laird. Gattis is hitless since returning from the disabled list.

RHP Gus Schlosser was promoted from Triple-A Gwinnett when RHP Anthony Varvaro was placed on the paternity leave list. Schlosser has appeared in 10 games for Atlanta, going 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA. He has struck out six and walked four in 12 innings. Schlosser had a 2.56 ERA in his last 10 games (eight starts) for Gwinnett.

RHP Aaron Harang (9-6, 3.36) received no decision in his last start on July 19 against the Phillies, despite pitching five shutout innings with four strikeouts. Harang has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last five starts. Harang has made three starts against the Marlins this season and is 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA. He is 5-5 with a 6.25 ERA in 16 career starts against Miami.

RHP Ervin Santana (9-6) allowed one run in 7 1/3 innings in Wednesday's win. Santana, who has won four of his last five starts, allowed six hits, walked three and struck out 10 -- the 13th time in his career he has produced double-digit strikeouts. Santana is 4-1 with a 3.15 ERA over his last five starts.

RF Jason Heyward went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak against the Marlins to 13 games. Over his last 15 games against Miami (since Aug. 3, 2013) Heyward is 25-for-61 with nine RBIs. He's batting .426 lifetime against the Marlins. Heyward also threw out a runner at second base Wednesday for his seventh assist, second-best in the National League.
