College notes: Harbor's Adams runner-up at Spartan Invitational

— Chad Ellis, a Petoskey grad, started at defensive end for Texas Lutheran University in a American Southwest Conference opening win over East Texas Baptist Lutheran, 44-34.
The Bulldogs erased a 14-point deficit in the second half, and a 12-game road skid streak was ended.
Ellis, after missing the Bulldogs first game, has started both games since, and has recorded two tackles and has one fumble recovery that included a seven-yard run.
TLU, 2-1 overall, 1-0 in conference, will host Howard Payne (Tx.) University Saturday, Sept.24.
— Robby Jensen, a Boyne City grad, had two solo tackles as the starting free safety for Olivet College in a non-conferece loss to No. 14 ranked North Central (Ill.) College in the D3football.com poll, 86-14.
The Comets became the 20th consecutive victim of the Cardinals at home over the past three seasons.
Jensen, a senior, has eight tackles, six solo, in the Comets three games.
Olivet, 0-3 overall, will end its non conference schedule with a trip to Wheaton (Ill.) College Saturday, Sept. 24.
— Becca Madison, a senior mid field starter, recorded a shot on goal for the Ohio Wesleyan women’s soccer team in a non conference win over Earlham (Ind.) College, 2-1.
Madison, a Charlevoix grad, has started in the six regular season games for the Bishops, recording one goal and 15 shots.
After losing their first two games, the Bishops have now won four straight with the game-winner scored by junior defender Devon Bradley, her first collegiate goal.
Ohio Wesleyan will travel to Otterbein (Ohio) University Wednesday, September 21.
— Dan Kerr, a 2009 Petoskey graduate, placed a team-best third as the Calvin men’s cross country team earned a commanding victory at the 2011 Knight Invite. Calvin won the season-opening event with 37 points, followed by Allegheny, 81.
