All-Big North Conference
Petoskey HIgh School seniors Cory Starkey and Kerby Tamm were named the 2010-11 Big North Conference boys’ and girls’ basketball players of the year, respectively, in voting by league coaches.
It is the second straight year that both were named the top player in the conference. Both led their respective teams to league championships and headline the all-league teams.
Starkey, an Associated Press Class A special mention, led the Northmen boys to their second straight undefeated finish in the league. Starkey was a Class B first-team All-Stater last season.
Tamm, a first-team Class B All-Stater a year ago and a first-team Class A All-Stater this year, led the Northmen girls to their first outright conference title since 1999. The Northmen shared the league crown a year ago.
Tamm has signed with Central Michigan University, Starkey with Bucknell. It is the fourth time that Tamm has earned first-team All-Big North Conference honors. It is Starkey’s third such honor.
Eighteen other Northmen athletes were honored by the league on its basketball, hockey and wrestling teams.
