Desert Reign (March 1, 2013)

Good news Jimmie Johnson fans, five-time won the Daytona 500. Bad news everyone else, now we head to one of JJ's best tracks, the Phoenix International Raceway.

Johnson is a four time winner at PIR and always seems to find his way to the front at this race. But there is also some good news for the field. He hasn't won at Phoenix since 2009. And the Sprint Cup is now driving a completely different car.

“Definitely a great start for the team," said Johnson. "When we were sitting discussing things before the season started, we felt good about the 500, but we're really excited for everything after the 500. So, very hopeful and excited that our No. 48 car will be really fast in Phoenix, Vegas, moving forward. I think it's going to be a very strong year for us.”

A tough Daytona has left a number of drivers in need of a good run at Phoenix, including Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth and three time winner at PIR Kevin Harvick.

“I’ve been on both sides," said Harivick. "Sometimes you go back after winning a race and you run terrible, other times you go back and run well. This year we have a new car and a lot of new things to deal with, you to have an open mind on how to approach the weekend. Obviously, running the NASCAR Nationwide Series race will help by providing a little extra track time, but Phoenix (International Raceway) was a good track for us last year. We finished first and second in the two races last season, so we’re going back expecting that we’ll run just as well.”

Stewart Kahne and Kenseth also have PIR wins, along with Denny Hamlin, Kurt and Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Carl Edward, Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon, and Jeff Burton.
