Bowyer on the Backstretch

Bowyer on the Backstretch (August 15, 2012)

Last weekend Kansas native Clint Bowyer came so close to adding a really nice clock to his trophy collection. He would have to second with a pretty beat up race car at Martinsville.

"Disappointed for sure," said Bowyer. "We had a fast car all weekend long and really thought we were maybe going to be walking out of here with a Grandfather clock.  I tore the car up pretty bad over here off of (turn) four.  I checked up and I got hit from behind, pushed into the 1 (Jamie McMurray) and all (heck) broke loose.  All in all, second place isn't bad, but it sure sucks right now."

It's really not bad, when you step back and consider the big picture. Bowyer moves back into the top 10 in points, from 14th to 8th.

Now NASCAR heads to Texas, a track that Bowyer has been pretty good at, especially when you consider intermediate tracks have kind of been his Achilles heel. In 14 previous starts, he has three top fives and seven top tens.

“I love Texas. The racing is always good and the track does such a great job of putting on a show both on and off the racetrack for the fans," said Bowyer. "This is one of the marque events on the schedule and taking home a trophy from Texas is a big deal. I’ve come close, but close doesn’t count. I want to win.”
