The official start to the Wichita Open begins with the Monday Shootout at Crestview Country Club.
Reflection Ridge pro Kurt Gibson and Nationwide Touring pro Andrew Buckle took home $800, beating Woody Austin and Willowbend Country Club pro Rod Nuckolls.
The Wichita Open has always kept a laid back atmosphere to the tournament and it's that attitude that keeps the players coming back every year.
"It's just a great event - the club gets behind it, the town gets behind it," said Josh Broadaway, Nationwide player who is 72nd on the money list. "I came into town early to help out with another event here. I love coming to Wichita and it's a ton of fun."
"Everyone comes out and supports it; it's one of our biggest events on Tour," said Jason Gore, who is 56th on the money list. "(The 17th hole) and places like this are just great. People come out, we got games to play and it's just a good time."
"Everything that goes on with the 17th hole - that's a (PGA) Tour event thing, not a Nationwide thing," said Woody Austin, who lives in Derby. "They go over and above to make this a great event and I think the player appreciate it."
Practice rounds get underway Tuesday with the Pro-Am to follow Wednesday morning. First round of thr 2012 Wichita Open tees off Thursday Morning.
