Ruud, 29, was signed by Seattle in April after last year's starting middle linebacker David Hawthorne signed in New Orleans. He was a candidate to replace Hawthorne as the Seattle starter, but now Ruud will be joining Hawthorne on the Saints instead. The Saints' linebacking corps is somewhat depleted from injuries, including Hawthorne.
Ruud was made expendable in Seattle because rookie Bobby Wagner has played well in training camp in the preseason games, and coaches believe he is ready to be the starter. Wagner was drafted in the second round out of Utah State University.
The Seahawks also waived defensive end Dexter Davis on Monday.
