Huskies Advance To Championship Game With 4-1 Victory over BYU
After three scoreless innings, the Huskies defeated BYU in the winner’s bracket of the Seattle NCAA Regional 4-1 to advance to Saturday’s championship game. The game will begin at 2:30 p.m. and if UW wins it will advance to the Super Regionals. If UW were to lose the first game a second and deciding game would be played at approximately 5 p.m.

UW improves 35-14 on the season and freshman pitcher Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) improves to 23-8 in the circle, pitching her 17th complete game. She allowed just one run on two hits and had six strikeouts.

BYU star Paige Affleck was the losing pitcher, allowing seven hits and two earned runs. BYU had three errors in the game. Hannah Howell pitched the final inning allow one hit.

The Huskies were led by sophomore Maggie Wagner (Woodinville, Wash.) with two hits. Junior Niki Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.).

UW took a 1-0 lead in the fourth as Williams drew a walk to lead off the inning. She reached second on a sacrifice bunt by Williams and stole third. Williams scored on a Cougar error.

Wagner led off the fifth with an infield single, Junior Kimi Pohlman reached on an error and then senior Jenn Salling (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) walked to load the bases. Williams drove in two with a single up the middle and Salling was thrown out at the plate.

BYU’s only run came in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run, the 11th of the season for Caschjen Atagi.

BYU continued to threaten that inning reaching on an error, but a great defensive play by Stuart and Salling and a strikeout by Inglesby ended the inning.

The Huskies added an insurance run in the seventh as Salling scored on a double down the left field line by Inglesby after a single herself.
