Huskies Softball Eliminated from Super Regionals

Once the Husky bats got rolling in game two of the NCAA Super Regionals in Columba, Mo., Sunday night, 12th-seeded Washington did some things that not many have against Missouri ace Chelsea Thomas.

Thomas and the fifth-seeded Tigers however, hung on for the 6-3 victory, taking the final spot in the Women’s College World Series and elimination the Huskies.

The game not only ended UW’s season but the great careers of Jenn Salling, Morgan Stuart and Ashley Tuiasosopo.

The Huskies outhit the Tigers 10-4. It was only the second time all season Thomas has allowed 10 hits and also just the sixth time she has allowed three runs in one game which is the most she has given up in any one game since 2010.

Sophomore Jerrin Fa’asua (Oceanside, Calif.) played in her first game since May 1, the last game at Stanford after suffering a concussion.

The first pitch of the game Rhea Taylor hit to center field off of freshman Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.). Inglesby walked Marston and a passed ball advanced the runners. Nicole Hudson hit a single to right for the first run of the game. An error on Niki Williams allowed Hudson to go to second and Marston to score. A wild pitch sent Hudson to third. She scored on a fielder’s choice during Marla Schweisberger’s at bat. The next pitch was a two-run home run by Lisa Simmons to make it 5-0.

During Princess Krebs’ at bat, Missouri head coach Ehren Earleywine was ejected on a call down the third base line, his second of the season.

With one out in the bottom of the first for UW, Williams (junior from Mission Viejo, Calif.) singled to left center. Junior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.) drew a walk to put two on. Inglesby singled to load the bases but two ground outs ended the inning for UW. UW equaled its hits in the first inning Sunday from Saturday in the first inning alone against Chelsea Thomas.

The second inning for both teams went three-up, three-down.

Missouri scored again in the third on a passed ball, another unearned run because of an earlier error on freshman Whitney Jones (Upland, Calif.). A great catch by Fa’asua ended the inning.
