BRAWLEY — The Southwest High girls’ squad beat Brawley Union High, 28-19, to win the Imperial Valley League title here Tuesday.
For the Eagles, Evalyn Cota led with 11 points and five steals. Paulina Calero had eight points and 10 rebounds; Maci Lerno came down with 17 rebounds.
Tigers swat Hornets, 48-30
IMPERIAL — The Imperial High girls’ basketball team downed Calipatria High, 48-30, in a Desert League game here Tuesday.
Karissa Peña led the charge for the Tigers with 12 points. Dezrah Van totaled 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Sarah Bendix scored eight points. For the Hornets, Valeria Tafoya had 16 points.
Imperial (6-0 DL) concludes its season at Brawley Union High on Thursday at 7 p.m., while Calipatria (3-3 DL) will travel to Central Union.
Vikings fall to Yellowjackets, 44-33
HOLTVILLE — The Holtville High girls' basketball team lost to Palo Verde Valley High, 44-33, in a Desert League game here Tuesday.
For the Vikings, Carly Brewer had eight points and four assists. Evelyn Velasco had six points. The Vikings host Southwest High at 7 p.m. today.
Tigers beat Hornets, 66-48, to clinch sole possession of Desert League title
CALIPATRIA — The Imperial High boys' basketball team finished the Deser League season undefeated after beating Calipatria High, 66-48, here Tuesday.
For the Tigers, Dajon Staton had 26 points, three rebounds and two steals. Azael Castro had 12 points, two rebounds and one steal. Chris Carter had nine points, two rebounds and six assists. Dexter Bell had seven points, 11 rebounds and one assist.
Imperial (18-7, 6-0 DL) will host Brawley Union High at 7 p.m. Friday.
Eagles beat Wildcats, 58-56
The Southwest High boys' basketball team Brawley Union High, 58-56, in an Imperial Valley League game Tuesday in El Centro.
For the Eagles, Chris Arambula had 18 points. Rick Cesena had 15 points. Eddie Romero and Brandon Martinez had eight points each.
For the Wildcats, Hunter Wharton and Bryce Alexander had 16 points each.
Eagles and Wildcats tie, 2-2
The Southwest and Brawley Union High boys’ soccer teams tied, 2-2, in an Imperial Valley League match on Tuesday in El Centro.
Rolando Lemus and Adrian Rodriguez scored for the Eagles.
Southwest (5-1-5 IVL) will travel to play Imperial High on Thursday at 6 p.m., while Brawley’s (6-1-2 IVL) season has come to a close.
Vikings slay Tigers, 2-1
HOLTVILLE — The Holtville High boys’ soccer team won the Desert Cup Trophy by defeating Imperial High, 2-1, in an Imperial Valley League game here Tuesday.
For the Vikings, Antonio Reyes scored the first goal and Omar Alderete, the second.
Holtville finishes its season with an IVL record of 4-2-1, while Imperial (1-8-1 IVL) will conclude its season Thursday, when it hosts Southwest High.
Tigers overcome Vikings, 6-3
IMPERIAL — The Imperial High girls’ soccer squad beat visiting Holtville High, 6-3, in an Imperial Valley League match Tuesday.
For the Vikings, Xochitl Garnica scored two goals and Kayla Rivera scored one.
Imperial (6-4-1 IVL) finishes its season Thursday by hosting Southwest High at 6 p.m., while Holtville (4-5-1 IVL) plays at Brawley Union High at 6 p.m.
Spartans tame Bulldogs, 68-50
The Central Union High junior varsity boys’ basketball squad beat Calexico High, 68-50, in an Imperial Valley League game Tuesday in El Centro.
Joseph Balbuena was the Spartans’ leading scorer with 25 points, followed by Christian Marquez with 16.
Central travels to play Calipatria High on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Calexico will travel to Palo Verde Valley High of Blythe.
Hornets best Tigers, 48-35
CALIPATRIA — The Calipatria High junior varsity boys’ basketball team rose above Imperial High, 48-35, in a Desert League matchup here Tuesday.
For the Hornets, Isaias Perez scored 16 points, Joe Prieto had 11 and Alfonso Romero had eight.
Calipatria (18-3) finishes DL competition in second place, but will travel to take on Central Union High on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., and Imperial finishes up at Brawley Union.
Bulldogs edge Spartans, 55-53
CALEXICO — The Calexico High junior varsity girls’ basketball team prevailed over Central Union High in a close Imperial Valley League contest, 55-53, here Tuesday.
Ashley Romero led the Bulldogs with 15 points in the double-overtime victory, followed by Alena Moreno with 13. Daisy Acosta and Alexa Lopez contributed with six and five points, respectively.
Calexico hosts Palo Verde Valley of Blythe on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., while Central will travel to Calipatria High.
