He set a personal record of 50.87 seconds, improving upon his 51.17 mark, set during the previous Wednesday’s preliminaries.
Explain what you enjoy most about your sport.
I enjoy the moment when you finish a race, looking up to see your time and discovering that you just got your best time ever. You know all the hours, days, weeks and months of work definitely paid off.
What is one of your more memorable moments in your sport?
When my friend and teammate Diego Zapata and I were swimming in warmups at a meet last summer and realized we were in the same lane as an Olympic breaststroker.
Tell us about someone who inspires you and why.
I am motivated by people that support me, swim with me or coach me.
What comes next for your career?
Goals for me this upcoming summer season are to place well at Sectionals, to qualify for Junior Nationals and to just keep improving.
