Smithsburg sweeps Calhoun track titles

FROSTBURG, Md. — Smithsburg won five events and claimed the Jerry Calhoun Invitational team title with 173 1/2 points, beating out seven other teams on Saturday at Mountain Ridge.
Zane Gardenhour won the long jump (21-8) and triple jump (41-10), Preston Miller won the shot put (39-1 1/2) and the Leopards won the 4x100 relay (46.00) and 4x200 relay (1:35.30).
Smithsburg got second-place finishes from Breon Hall in the 200 (23.59), Devon Stover in the 110 hurdles (16.69), Matt Kirby in the triple jump (39-0) and Andy Anderson in the discus (119-11).
Third-place finishers included Miller in the long jump (20-1) and triple jump (38-1), Stover in the pole vault (10-6) and 300 hurdles (45.69), Chad Greene in the 100 (11.57). Luke Daigneault in the 800 (2:10.81), and the 4x400 relay (3:47.22) and 4x800 relay (8:54.77).
Talley Zimmerman Invitational
WALKERSVILLE, Md. — Evan Hardy won the 3,000 in 8 minutes, 52.38 seconds to lead Williamsport to a second-place finish in the 14-team field with 68 points.
Tuscarora won the team title with 92 points.
Cody Grams was second in the 1,500 (4:09.91) and Nicholas Berchock was second in the pole vault (12-6) for the Wildcats. Theron Palmer took third in the 400 (51.89), and Williamsport’s 4x200 relay team was third in 1:33.21.
Boonsboro finished ninth in the team standings with 45 points, led by John Lowery’s victory in the shot put (53-4). Ethan Allnutt was third in the 800 (2:04.44) and Nick Seabright was third in the 300 hurdles (41.93).

Jerry Calhoun Invitational
FROSTBURG, Md. — Smithsburg beat out six other schools for the team title by scoring 137 points and winning four events.
Dominique Dilandro won the 100 hurdles (17.27), Emma Gerhold won the pole vault (9-0), Kayla Hott won the shot put (29-9 1/2) and Gabby Slayman won the discus (80-11) for the Leopards.
Smithsburg got second-place finishes from Brown in the pole vault (7-6), Taylor Cline in the long jump (14-7) and triple jump (30-0), Mia Cardone in the 100 (13.51), Lauren Johnson in the 1,600 (5:35.36) and the 4x200 relay (1:53.83).
The Leopards got third-place finishes from Megan Stracka in the shot put (26-7 3/4), Gerhold in the long jump (14-2), Sarah Thompson in the 200 (28.46) and the 4x100 relay (54.96).

WALKERSVILLE, Md. — Boonsboro finished second in the team standings with 90 points, five behind Thomas Johnson in the 13-team field.
