HAGERSTOWN—Despite North Hagerstown’s best efforts, the Hubs were no match for Tuscarora in Thursday’s boys lacrosse game at Mike Callas Stadium.
Behind Cameron Maluchnik’s four goals, the Titans ran away with an 11-3 victory.
“We got beat in transition in the third quarter. They were getting behind us and I think that was the turning point of the game,” said North assistant coach Randy Brown.
The Titans drew first blood in the first quarter with scores by Maluchnik and Chris Thomas, but a man-advantage goal by Brandon Brown put the Hubs on the board. Drew Brooks scored 32 seconds later to tie the game for North.
“The kids are hustling. They’re getting better. There’s a lot of positives here,” Randy Brown said.
The tandem of Maluchnik and Thomas struck again in the second quarter, both scoring right before halftime to put Tuscarora up for good.
North (0-3) kept the pressure in the second half, but couldn’t solve Tuscarora goalie Adam Grubb, who finished with 13 saves.
“(Tuscarora) has a great goalie,” said Randy Brown. “He was eating up a lot of our shots tonight.”
The Titans fell back into a ball control offense in the fourth quarter to run time off the clock, but scores by Maluchnik and Pat Campbell sealed the game for Tuscarora.
Scott Davis scored once more for the Hubs in the fourth, but by then it was too little, too late.
“We have some younger kids on this team that are still learning the game, and we’re still finding our footing,” said Randy Brown. “We’ll keep taking it one game at a time and we’ll continue to get better.”
Goalie Brian Davis had 12 saves for the Hubs.
