Fresh Face For UConn Football

As the UConn football team transitioned into its new conference home, the program was bottoming out. The Huskies, coming off consecutive 5-7 seasons, began 2013 with losses to Towson, Maryland, Michigan and Buffalo. And that marked the end of the Paul Pasqualoni era, as the Cheshire native was fired and replaced on an interim basis by offensive coordinator T.J. Weist. There were five more losses before UConn won at Temple. The season ended with victories over Rutgers and Memphis, as quarterback Casey Cochran passed for a school-record 461 yards in the season-ending win. Four days later, Diaco was introduced as the new coach and the fan base was energized. The former Notre Dame assistant brings youth and enthusiasm to a program that was sputtering. And as the year ends, there's a sense of momentum behind a program that was 0-9 in mid-November.
