UConn bounced back late Sunday night from the rejection of A'ja Wilson by grabbing 6-foot-1 junior forward Napheesa Collier from St. Louis, the first member of its Class of 2015.
Collier gave her oral commitment to coach Geno Auriemma following her official visit to the campus last weekend. She chose the Huskies over Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri and Notre Dame.
Collier led Incarnate Word to a 31-1 record and the Class 4 state title last season. She averaged 23.7 points and 10.0 rebounds. She will attend USA Basketball's U-18 national team trials in Colorado Springs next month.
"This morning I verbally committed to UCONN! #soexcited," Collier tweeted late Sunday night.
The championship was the second in as many seasons for Collier and the Red Knights. Collier was the St. Louis Post-Dispatch All-Metro player of the year this season.
Collier was one of four high school juniors making official visits to UConn last weekend.
