Elementary school officials had concerns about what was going on at home when a young Bob Diaco showed up one day with his arms all smashed up. It seems Diaco, in third grade at the time, was toughening himself up for football. He took on a concrete piling and, of course, the piling won.

STORRS — This was only minutes before Bob Diaco walked into his introductory press conference last Dec. 12 at the Burton Family Complex. Only minutes before Diaco began quoting St. Augustine in Latin, referencing Ivan Petrovich Pavlov and Garth Brooks and telling the world about energy vampires.
