Every year since 1952 golf fans have gone to Wethersfield Country Club or TPC River Highlands in Cromwell to watch PGA Tour players and cheer for Arnie, Jack, Lee, Phil and Bubba. Supporters of the tournament, which is now the Travelers Championship, have done much for charity. In the history of the tournament, $28 million has gone to various charities. Last year $1.1 million went to more than 130 charitable organizations.
"The NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball; no other major sport gives 100 percent of its proceeds to charities," Travelers Championship tournament director Nathan Grube said. "It makes everything we do worthwhile because of the charities that are helped."
