Rock Cats Lose To Mets
Binghamton third baseman Dustin Lawley had three hits, including a home run, and four RBI to lead the Mets to an 8-3 win over the Rock Cats Monday night at New Britain stadium. Shortstop Rylan Sandoval also did damage for the Mets, with three RBI on a pair of hits. DH Reynaldo Rodriguez had two RBI for the Rock Cats on a pair of hits and catcher Kyle Knudson drove in New Britain's other run. Winning pitcher was Rainy Lara (5-2, 4.39); Taylor Rogers (7-5, 4.00) took the loss.
Children's Charities Tennis Classic
The 36th annual Children's Charities Tennis Classic will be Aug. 8-10 at the Don Davis Tennis Courts at Walnut Hill Park in New Britain. The event is open to players 10 through 25. There are more than 12 divisions in singles and doubles. Entry fees are $20 for singles and $20 per doubles team. The tournament benefits various Pediatric Child-Life projects and programs at The Hospital of Central Connecticut at New Britain General. Participants receive a free lunch on each day of their play, and the first 75 players to register will receive a free tournament T-shirt. Franciscan Golf Classic
The 19th Annual Franciscan Golf Classic to benefit the Franciscan Life Center and Franciscan Home Care and Hospice Care, will be held Monday, Aug. 18, at Tunxis Plantation Golf Club in Farmington, CT. The $175 cost to play includes lunch, dinner and the opportunity to win great hole-in-one Prizes: a 2015 Hyundai Sonata, a Masters trip, a Scotland golf vacation and a Pebble Beach Resort golf trip. Hoops On The Hill Basketball Clinic: For boys ages 5 to 12, Aug. 4-7 at Camp Courant, 96 Batterson Park Road, Farmington. Conducting the clinic will be former New Britain High School/Choate Prep coach Stan Glowiak and coach John Mirabello from Northwest Catholic. The clinic will include contests, games and drills in fundamentals. Lowered hoops and smaller courts under covered pavilions will be used for ages 5-8 and will stress fun and fundamentals.
