Jon Berti had a two-run single in the third inning and Matt Newman a three-run double in the seventh as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats defeated the Rock Cats 6-2 Saturday in an Eastern League game in Manchester, N.H.

Mike Kvasnicka and Reynaldo Rodriguez had RBI singles for New Britain. Virgil Vasquez (4-4) took the loss.

Christopher, 15, Wins Ninth

Mike Christopher Jr. of Wolcott held off Joey Ternullo of Middletown to win the 25-lap Legends feature at the Waterford Speedbowl.

It was the ninth victory of the season for the 15-year old Christopher, son of former Stafford Speedway Modified standout Mike Christopher and nephew of former NASCAR Whelen All-American Series short track national champion Ted Christopher.

Dylan Izzo of Westport was third. Ryan Waterman of Danielson came out on top of a heated battle with Phil Evans of Uncasville in the 25-lap Street Stock feature. Evans held on for second and Scott Sundeen of Douglas, Mass., was third.

Corey Barry of Plainfield won for the fourth time this season in the 25-lap SK Light Modified feature. Paul Buzel of Trumbull was second and Larry Goss of North Windham third.

Cabral In Steeplechase Final

Glastonbury's Donn Cabral ran 8:34.77 and finished second in the preliminaries of the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday at the U.S. outdoor track and field championships at Sacramento State. Cabral, who finished eighth at the 2012 Olympics, qualified for Sunday's final. Evan Jager, the American record holder, ran the fastest time of the two heats, 8:34.45. Cabral finished sixth last year with a time of 8:35.87. ... In Farmington Bank/Vantis Life League baseball, Dan Madigan pitched a two-hitter and drove in two runs, and Kyle Shuckerow went 4-for-5 with an RBI as Cromwell-Joseph's Auto Body defeated Berlin, 11-2. ... Joe Klimczak pitched a complete game and Eric Welles was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the Harwinton Vipers' 8-5 victory over Quinn & Quinn of West Hartford. Casey Banter had two hits and two RBI for Quinn & Quinn. ... Jacob Kochen (four one-hit innings), Alex Jensen and Kyle Cabral combined on the shutout as Cricket Press of West Hartford defeated Newington, 1-0. Lucas Huber was 3-for-3 with an RBI double.
