William and Mary senior Mallory Schaffer was chosen in the second round of the National Women’s Soccer League draft by the Seattle Reign, with the 15th overall pick.
She was a two-time Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year and a first-team Scholar All-America, as selected by the national coaches association. In four years, she had 41 goals and 96 points, which rank sixth and seventh, respectively, all-time in W&M history.
Virginia senior forward Caroline Miller, the ACC Offensive Player of the Year, was selected by the Washington Spirit with the 10th pick.
“I am so excited to be selected by my hometown team,” said Miller, who’s from Rockville, Md. “I have wanted to play professionally since I was a little girl.”
She’ll join another former Cavalier, Lori Lindsey, with the Spirit.
In Major League Soccer’s draft Thursday, VCU forward Jason Johnson was chosen in the first round, 13th overall, by the Houston Dynamo.
