THIS WEEK ON THE ADMIRALS HOUR RADIO SHOW
Tune in to the Admirals Hour on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN Radio 94.1-FM.
Things will be a bit different for the Admirals as they face the Phantoms for the 87th time in team history. Although the Friday game will be played in Philadelphia, Norfolk will in fact be facing the Adirondack Phantoms for the first time this season. The game, which originally was slated to be played at the Glens Falls Civic Center at 7:30 p.m., will instead be played at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia at 7:00 p.m. A familiar face remains at the top of the Adirondack scoring chart with Jon Matsumoto leading the team (eight goals, 16 points). The biggest change for the Phantoms is between the pipes where Johan Backlund (6-6-0, 2.79, .904) and rookie Nic Riopel (2-4-0, 3.42, .887) tend the Adir ondack nets. Former Admiral Jason Ward is now a Phantom and has eight points in 12 games. The Phantoms will travel to Lowell to face the Devils on Wednesday before heading to Philadelphia to "host" the Admirals on Friday.
The Admirals will face off against the Hershey Bears at Giant Center for the third time this season on Saturday. Norfolk has played the East Division leaders tough this season but has come up short in two games (3-1 loss on October 3 and 4-3 loss on November 13). Alexandre Giroux, who leads the Bears in points and is perennially among the AHL scoring leaders, is currently on recall to the Washington Capitals. Andrew Gordon, who victimized the Admirals on October 3 for a hat trick, leads Hershey in goals with 11. The goaltending tandem of Michal Neuvirth (8-4-0, 2.09, .926) and Jason Bacashihua (5-1-1, 2.12, .9 26) ranks among the best in the league. The Bears will travel from Albany on Friday night to host the Admirals on Saturday.
