HAMPTON — Mark Claar scored his third straight doubleheader sweep in twin 20-lap Grand Stock races, taking his eighth and ninth wins of the season as Langley Speedway closed out its NASCAR points season with “Championship Saturday.”

Despite Claar’s best effort, however, he couldn’t overcome Ricky Derrick, who took second place to claim his third straight Grand Stock title.

In the first feature, Claar grabbed the lead on a restart at lap 2 and cruised to the win.

Claar was the fastest qualifier, at 77.914 mph, but had to start on the outside of Row 2 after spinning a “4” on the inversion wheel.

Derrick moved up to the pole position and paced lap 1.

The first of the race’s three caution flags appeared on lap 2. As the field bunched for the restart, Claar opted to pull outside Derrick. Back under green, Claar nosed ahead of Derrick as the lead duo returned to the stripe. He cleared Derrick on lap 3, eventually winning by four lengths. Brandon Hinson, Carl Livingston and Mark Frye completed the top five.

In the nightcap, Claar started on the pole and led all the way to complete the doubleheader sweep and run his winning streak to six. Derrick placed second to Claar for the sixth consecutive race. Robbie Parker, Hinson and Livingston completed the top five.

Super Street 40:
Randy Sample moved out front on lap 2 and strolled to his sixth victory of the year in the 40-lap finale.

Renno Marchetti IV took over second place on lap 36 and tailed Sample to the stripe, five lengths behind. Jamie Sample was third, just ahead of Ryan Nester, who wrapped up the 2011 championship with his fourth-place run. John Pereira completed the top five.

Legends 25:
Nick Smith led from pole to checkers for his first win of the year.

Title contender Steve Keesee was second, three lengths back, but was unable to overtake Brad Hancock for the championship.

Hancock was third in the finale. Jamie Price and Chris Raiford were fourth and fifth, respectively.

UCAR twin 20s
Landon Florian overcame a four-car inversion to capture his ninth win of the season in the first of the twin 20s and clinch the season title.

Ben Zoellner was second, five lengths back, followed by Chris Hildebrand, pole-sitter Michael Waters and Bill Eaker.

For the second race, Florian accepted promoter Chuck Hall’s challenge to start from the rear of the field.

Florian nearly overcame the self-imposed handicap, finishing just a couple of car-lengths behind first-time winner Eaker, who led from pole to checkers.

Zoellner was third, followed by Hildebrand, who voluntarily joined Florian at the rear of the starting grid. Waters rounded out the top five.

Champ Kart twin 20s:
After seeing nine different winners in the season’s first nine races, Saturday’s twin 20s produced two repeat winners — Chris O’Brien, who took the division crown, and Albert Falk.

In the first race, O’Brien moved out front at the beginning of lap 17 and rolled to the win. Charlie-Ray Lorah provided O’Brien with drafting help throughout the contest and finished second, followed by pole-starter Falk, Jake Harberts and Aaron Leach.

In the nightcap, Falk took the lead on lap 6 and won, with runner-up Jordan Wood giving the drafting boost. Harberts was third, Tommy Sweeney fourth and O’Brien fifth.

Enduro 50:
Mike Ganoe picked up his fourth win of the year, taking the lead for good on lap 21.

Richard Quinn was the runner-up, followed by Bill Eaker and Danny Harrell, who clinched the 2011 division crown. Larry Drommerhausen was fifth.

Day of Destruction next:
Langley Speedway will host its sixth annual Day of Destructionon Saturday afternoon, Oct. 29.
