Digest: Wizards won't trade No. 3 pick for Bulls' Deng

Navy's Stell to compete for Team USA at Pan American Junior Games

The Washington Wizards do not intend to send the No. 3 overall pick to the Chicago Bulls in a deal for All-Star forward Luol Deng, according to two league sources with knowledge of team affairs. ESPN.com reported that the Bulls and Wizards have had exploratory talks about a trade that would also include sending center Emeka Okafor to Chicago. Okafor, according to the report, would have to formally opt in to his $14.5million option this week for the deal to be completed. When informed of the report, one source said there was "no truth" to the rumored trade proposal for Deng. A 10-year veteran and two-time all-star, Deng, 28, averaged 16.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists last season in Chicago. He is slated to earn $14.2 million next season and would become a free agent in the summer of 2014.

Track and field: Navy rising sophomore javelin thrower Jay Stell earned a spot on Team USA for the Pan American Junior Games this past weekend. The games will be held in Medellin, Colombia, from Aug. 23 to 25. The USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships serve as the selection meet for the 2013 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships. The national meet was held this past weekend at Drake in Des Moines, Iowa. Stell placed fourth at the national meet with a throw of 211 feet, 3 inches. However, it is the top two finishers in each event with a world-qualifying standard that make the national team. Stell had surpassed the world standard of 218-12 twice this year, while the second and third-place finishers at the national meet had not, which allowed Stell to make the team.
