The bottom line

The Orioles were one big hit Friday night from having a very strong week at an important stretch in their schedule. They still won four of six games against two teams that will be among their chief wild-card competitors if they can't beat out the Yankees for the American League East title, but the absence of Nick Markakis clearly was evident in the series loss to the A's over the weekend. Still, give them credit for weathering a very tough stretch over the past two weeks, going 6-4 against the Yankees, Rays and A's. Grade: BUS Presswire
