Trainers call the Hall of Famer "a tactical genius." Maryland racegoers knew it first. Prado, from Peru, plied his trade at Laurel Park and Pimlico Race Course in the 1990s, when he was the state's leading jockey six times and America's top rider on three occasions. His 536 victories in 1997 are third-best in history. Still riding at 44, Prado has won more than 6,400 races, including the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes (twice).
