Ravens defense prepping for 'very unique' Saints QB Drew Brees

John Harbaugh praised Saints QB Drew Brees this week. And the Ravens will need to stop him Monday night.

When the Ravens' defense squares off Monday night with Drew Brees, they'll face one of the most prolific quarterbacks in NFL history.

The New Orleans Saints standout is an eight-time Pro Bowl selection, a former Super Bowl Most Valuable Player and the most accurate passer in NFL history with a 66.1 career completion percentage.

Brees has four 5,000-yard passing seasons and has career marks of 54,152 yards, 382 touchdowns, 187 interceptions and a 95.3 passer rating.

Although Brees' numbers are slightly down this season for the 4-6 Saints wiith 3,071 yards, 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions after passing for 5,162 yards and 39 touchdowns last season, he remains one of the most formidable quarterbacks in the league.

"He's very unique as a quarterback," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said of Brees. "He’s one of a kind. He’s the classic West Coast operator. You think of the guys in that offense -- Joe Montana-type guys that didn’t have the size, but got the ball out quick, made the reads quickly, quick decisions. He’s really uncanny in the pocket.

"He has an uncanny ability to keep a play alive in the pocket, or outside of the pocket and find someone to throw to, or just get rid of it. He takes very few sacks. He holds the ball, but he takes very few sacks. That’s a gift. One of the all-time great statistic quarterbacks in the history of the game. Going to be a big challenge for us.”
