23. Pam Shriver, tennis

At 16, the McDonogh junior reached the championship round of the 1978 U.S. Open -- its youngest finalist ever -- before losing to Chris Evert. Once the world's No. 3 singles player, Shriver blossomed in doubles, winning 21 Grand Slam events (including seven Australian Opens, five Wimbledons and, at one point, 109 straight matches) with Martina Navratilova. A Hall of Famer, she won gold in doubles at the 1988 Olympics. UPI photo
