He is the most successful steeplechase rider of all time, winning 440 races over a career that spanned 21 years. Fearless in the saddle, Aitcheson earned a record 40 victories in 1964 and took an unprecedented seven North American jump titles, including four straight between 1967 and 1970. The Olney native and Hall of Famer rode through injuries and once raced with a broken leg, painting his cast brown to look like a boot.
