An Onida women and her teammates are moving on in the Summit League basketball championships.
University of South Dakota senior point guard Alexis Yackley and her Coyotes defeated North Dakota State 73-53 Sunday in the quarterfinals at the Sioux Falls Arena. The three-year starter had three rebounds, three assists and two points for USD.
The Coyotes (16-14) will play IUPUI (20-10) in today’s semifinals at 2:30 p.m. South Dakota State (23-7) will play Fort Wayne (13-16) in the other semifinal at 12:05 p.m. All of the women’s semifinals and men’s semifinals are on Midco Sports Network. The SDSU men will kick off those semifinals at 6 tonight.
Tempestt Wilson and Nicole Seekamp scored 15 points each, and Sam Mehr added 14 more to lead South Dakota. The trio contributed 14 during the 18-point rally that flipped a 35-30 deficit with 16 minutes left into a 48-35 lead with 10 to go in the game.
The Bison got no closer than eight points the rest of the way.
Sunday’s first game of the day was a thriller as Haley Seibert scored 33 points and played all 50 minutes as she led Fort Wayne to a 106-101 double-overtime victory over Western Illinois in the highest scoring game in Summit League Tournament history.
A 5-foot-5 sophomore from Terre Haute, Ind., Seibert hit a layup which put Fort Wayne ahead 104-101, then stole the ball and cashed two free throws with 10 seconds left to end the scoring.
The game was tied 14 times, including 84-84 at the end of regulation and 96-96 after the first OT, and saw 15 lead changes.
