MINNEAPOLIS — A pair of strong pitching performances carried Presentation to a baseball doubleheader sweep of Crown late Thursday at the Metrodome, winning by scores of 10-1 and 8-1.

On Friday night, the Saints were not so fortunate, dropping both ends of a twin bill to Hamline, 9-0 and 4-3.

Presentation’s Chad Ellingson pitched a complete game in the opener, allowing three hits and striking out six. Heath Giedt collected three hits, including a homer, scored three runs and drove in a pair of runs. Four other Saints had two hits each in PC’s 11-hit attack. Tyson Paulson and Willie Macha also drove two runs each.

In game two, Greg Bares took the mound for PC and picked up where Ellingson left off. Bares allowed one unearned run over six innings, walked none and struck out eight. The Saints did their damage early, scoring seven runs over the second and third innings. Giedt and Paulson had two hits each, including a homer for Paulson, and both drove in two runs.

In the nightcap, the Saints trailed 4-0 after four innings and rallied in the sixth but fell short. The Saints fell to 5-9 and are off until March 23-24 when they travel to Pleasant Hill, Iowa, for four games with Cornell College.
