Kansas State’s Brittany Chambers was drafted in the second round of the WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks on Monday. Chambers is the older sister of current Northern State volleyball player Kelsey Chambers.
The 5-foot-8 Chambers was a three-time All-Big 12 first-team honoree for the Wildcats. Chambers becomes the seventh player in school history to be selected during the WNBA Draft. Sturgis graduate and former Kansas State standout Megan Mahoney was drafted in the 2005 draft by the Connecticut Sun.
Los Angeles finished second in the Western Conference regular season standings with a 24-10 record during the 2012 season. The Sparks advanced to the Western Conference Finals, falling to the 2011 WNBA champion Minnesota Lynx. Training camps open May 5, with the league’s 17th season set to being on May 24.
Stanley County graduate and Purdue senior Sam Ostarello was not drafted during the three-round event on Monday. Ostarello could possibly get invited by a team to participate in training camp or could play professionally overseas.
