Aberdeen-born pole vaulter Brad Walker not only failed to win a medal for the second consecutive Olympics, he failed to clear a height for the second straight Games.
France'sRenaud Lavillenie won the gold Friday in London, setting an Olympic record of 19-5 . Walker passed at the opening height of 18-1 and then missed three times at 18-5 . Four years ago in Eugene, Ore., at the 2008 Prefontaine Classic, Walker set an American record of 19-9 . He then went to Beijing, China, as the favorite to win the gold, but couldn't clear a height. Walker lived in Aberdeen until age 2 and his parents still have friends in Aberdeen.
