BEMIDJI, Minn. - Northern State's Shea McClanahan concluded the second day of the NSIC Multi-Events heptathlon on Monday, competing in three events.
McClanahan logged a time of 10.65 seconds in the 60-meter dash, cleared 12 feet, five and a half inches in the pole vault and had a time of 3:02.01 in the mile run. His point total was 3,774, good for 13th place. Northern coach Jim Fuller noted that both McClanahan and Leandra Schlecht, who competed in the women's decathlon on Sunday, continue to improve.
It's a learning process. We're not there by any means yet, said Fuller. They both know more about (multi-events) than they did. You don't do it like it's a high-school event. We just have to put in the time to get better. We have a lot of good multi-event kids. I don't recall any who started out at the top.
Laquone Robinson of Minnesota State, Moorhead, was the overall men's champion, scoring 5,093 points, with the next five athletes being from Minnesota State, Mankato.
The Wolves will have a group traveling to Lincoln, Neb., Friday to compete in the UNL Tune-Up and a group of throwers in Vermillion for the University of South Dakota John Dalton Invitational.
