A money dispute could delay the race season at the Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City.
Shane Liebig of Rapid City bought the half-mile oval track at a 2010 auction with funding provided by Ed and Lori Kirchoff of Gillette, Wyo. The Kirchoffs said Liebig is behind on his payments, however, and the couple padlocked the speedway's gate.
Liebig has filed a lawsuit against the Kirchoffs for breach of agreement, claiming that he has five years to repay them.
Ed Kirchoff told the Rapid City Journal that the track's racing season will start on time under new management. The track's Facebook page said the season will be delayed until the dispute is settled. A jury trial is scheduled for June.
The Kirchoffs also operate the Gillette Thunder Speedway in Wyoming.
