Government spending on public education
Funds requested by the U.S. Department of Education for their 2009 education goals.
The per-pupil expenditure on public elementary and secondary education nationally in 2006. New York spent the most among states or state equivalents ($14,884), followed by New Jersey ($14,630) and the District of Columbia ($13,446). Utah spent the least per student ($5,437), followed by Idaho ($6,440) and Arizona ($6,472).
